Francisco Calabuig

Francisco Calabuig Gisbert was born in Albalat dels Sorells, Valencia, in 1946. At a very young age, he starts an apprenticeship with painter Antonio Torregrosa, who teaches and mentors Francisco.

In Valencia in 1973, takes place his first exhibit at the “Associació de la Premsa”. Since then, his work has been presented in more than 90 solo exhibits and numerous collective exhibitions.

Witty, graceful, talkative, friendly… Francisco Calabuig is an impressionist with a clean and calm brushstrokes. He repeatedly returns to a collection of tonal, vibrant, perfect impasto, lucid and playful landscapes, in which color, light, and movement initiate a perfectly harmonized song in three voices.

His thematic explores the traditional countryside themes: farmhouses, pines, locust trees, or bushes outlined against the blue-violet background of a sky with body and soul, almost palpable.

Whitewashed country houses, stones piled up...It is a recognized countryside scenery that was experienced before and then reinterpreted, to be made anew according to aesthetic requirements.

Something of Gabriel Miró can be perceived in his small formats, the reduced-size paintings. It is the lyricism, the charm, the juiciness, and the narrative that can be observed in some specific artwork.
